Mimic Pro e-Newsletters
Don’t Try to Reinvent the Wheel
Sooner or later you are gonna have to start collecting email addresses for your own derby e-newsletter. There are HUNdreds of different ways to build your mailing list and I’ll talk about that in another blog.
Derbyists have a silly little habit of trying to reinvent the wheel. Stop it! Go to your favorite professional sports team websites and subscribe to their e-newsletters. See what the pros do and mimic it.
To be more specific, I’ll offer some steps to solving any issues (I prefer to call the issues “areas of focus”) that your derby league or team may have.
Easy Steps to Mimicking
- Brainstorm areas your team/league would like to focus — ticket sales is a good example.
- Examine how 2-3 professional sports teams treat these areas of focus in their e-newsletters and pick it apart.
- Then, all you gots to do is MIMIC IT. Only use what will work for you, of course, but don’t be afraid to step outside your old tactics and try new things.
The point is… the sooner you get used to the idea that derby should be run like a pro sports team (in a lot of ways), the closer you will be to succeeding. Those pro teams have armies of people working to create the right formulas, so use that to your advantage.
